May: A Month of Activities!

As May is Lupus Awareness Month, it’s no surprise that lupus events and activities abound. It’s a busy month for me personally – with shows, symposiums, house stuff, and Pillbags – but I hope to make time for most of these. I hope you can, too!

I’m particularly excited about the upcoming workshop my sister, Katie Rice, of Grow Career Coaching, is putting on. If you’re in the D.C./Northern Virginia area, I invite you to come out for what is sure to be an evening of enlightenment. Details included below - can you tell I’m playing favorites?
EVENTS:

May 2nd – Thursday: LFA Indiana Chapter Living with Lupus Symposium, Crown Point, Indiana, 4-8pm. I flew out on Wednesday, and am now rested and ready for my presentation today at 4pm. See you there!


May 4th – Saturday: LFA DC/Maryland/VA Chapter Annual Summit, George Washington Hospital, Washington D.C., 9am – 3pm. My pillbags are packed and ready for the event – look for a table of fun, fashionable pillbags, and that will be me! (My equally-as-stylish book will be available, too.)


May 14th – Tuesday: Facebook chat on the topic of “Lupus and General Health” hosted by Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC, in conjunction with the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation, online from 5:30 – 6:30 pm EST. To join, visit the HSS Facebook page, “Like” the page and join the conversation.

ALSO on May 14th: "Your Hidden Potential: Discover Talents You Never Knew You Had", The Lyceum, Old Town Alexandria, 7:30-9pm. Click here for details and to purchase tickets. It's sure to be a great seminar!!


And lastly, on May 14th: GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) educational webcast and teleconference, featuring Lupus expert Dr. Christopher Parker, patient Rena and immunology nurse educator Chris Richards, 8-8:30 p.m. ET. Click here for details.

May is lupus awareness month?!?!?!? No way! A friend told me about your site…I was diagnosed with lupus in 1997 but never really focused on it much (well, outside of seeing my rheumatologist, blood work, the infamous 24-hour urine tests and taking my medications). But, six months ago, the disease went crazy wild as a result of a pregnancy, which I ended up having to terminate in the second trimester. That led to a kidney biopsy that led to the diagnosis of lupus nephritis. Ugh. Totally not-by-the-book. Six months later – even after a blast of 3000 mg of IV Solu-Medrol and higher-than-usual daily prednisone, plus my other immunosuppressants – I’m still not in remission. So lupus is a bit more central to my world these days.

All of that said, I saw the May 14th e-seminar sponsored by GSK and was interested, but don’t see any information on their site…do you have more details?

Oh my goodness. what a roller coaster you've been on. So sorry to hear about your disease activity and unsuccessful pregnancy. i do hope you'll be able to get the disease in line soon--that solu-medrol is something else, isn't it? i'm providing a link to the generic registration form for the gsk seminar, but i couldn't find add'l info either. https://events.usinlupus.com/usinlupus-webcasts-registration.html

The first of the GSK events will be held on Tuesday, May 14 from 8-8:30 p.m. ET. Lupus expert Dr. Christopher Parker, patient Rena and immunology nurse educator Chris Richards will be holding a prerecorded educational webcast and teleconference to better understand how changes in the immune system can lead to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, lupus). This webcast will highlight the science behind lupus, the types of lupus, the triggers of SLE, and the importance of open and honest communication with healthcare professionals. There are approximately 166,000 to 322,000 Americans who have SLE, the most common form of lupus.

Can't believe that it is May again already! I feel like a full year has flown by so fast. I was wondering if the chapter summit that you mentioned was the same as the National Lupus Advocacy Summit I have been reading about? It sounds like a great event!
